Bed time

Words strung together to try and create a thought or a feeling. Nothing more…

Perchance to dream, thoughts dark and cold

and wintry chill pervades and bright

light dims and so to slumber slips

where true desire from dark earth duly crawls

White bones through fingers poke and claw

and lips oaths break and smile then whisper sweet

white lies, half truths, deceit most syrupy

and from his mouth and breast he feeds

Hungry mouth suckles and feeds on lies most warm

yet cold on the tongue, belly bloated he rises

and wiping his mouth, eyes ringed and tooth blackened smile

fed on desires yet hunger raging wild

Into the night, soft screams and tears make pulses race

and twisted he submits to need

and when dawn comes, and waking guilt subsides

he smiles, rolls over, smiling hungry still

Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday: GATHER and SOFT

A Tanka kinda doo-da

Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday

I don’t take many things seriously as you probably know but I am going to make a concerted effort to do Colleen’s challenges properly when I do them. I have scant regard for the correct use of haiku and tanka and often do such beastly things to them but I think it is also important to show appreciation for the little blighters because they are so fabulous when done right.

This week the challenge was to use synonyms for GATHER and SOFT.  I used COLLECT and SQUIDGY.

Years take their toll

Naked he collects his girth

sweating and squidgy

She sighs and turns out the light

smiling thinks of his brother

Okay so I never took it that seriously this week.  Sorry Colleen, I shall try harder next time it’s been a long week…:)

Footprints – #writephoto

A revisiting of sorts

In response to Sue’s photo prompt.

“Hey Boss, have you seen what Mary’s been writing?”

“That footprints in the sand woman?”

“Yeah her”.  Jonah scratched his head and laughed.  “Did you have anything to do with it?  I know what you’re like, whispering in their ears like you care”

“Look, I never asked to get stuck on this planet ok, I never asked to be immortal and I certainly never asked to be anyone’s lord and saviour. He continued, quite vexed, “2500 years I’ve been here. I get bored.  Not once have those upstairs even bothered to so much as pop in and say ‘Good Job’ or  read one of my reports, I’m sorry”

“What did you do?”

“Ok so I popped into her dream and I gave it all that ‘I was carrying you ‘ business.  I also gave her cancer.”

“Boss, you’re such a dick.”

Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday: DANCE and COMMAND

Golden rays command

and direct verdent ballet

to it’s wistful tune

And breathless,  new eyes look on

enraptured by her beauty

The Soldier Part 2

A thing where I only write every second piece

A.P. (I am sure he has a name but for the purposes of this we shall go with A.P.) asked me if I fancied some sort of collaboration thing when he writes a piece then I follow.

I was asked to do this before and I wanted to and then I realised I have less time than I would like to really make an effort so I didn’t do it.  Nothing has changed but this time I said yes and so A.P. goes and makes a quite eloquent and intriguing post and I figured I better get it done as it would be frightfully rude not to so I seem to have written the follow up piece below.

There weren’t really any rules other than he does a piece then I do.

Oh well this is what I managed today between going to the tip, taking the boys to rugby, making dinner and then watching a film…

This is Part 1

The King sat and waited with a patience that he seldom enjoyed.  Things in the palace were often so frightfully dull and for once there was cause for some excitement.

“Is it done” he asked as Bentwhistle laboured back through the room, the guards following closely behind.  It wasn’t every day your sworn enemy met his doom so it was something to be savoured.

“Yes my Lord, he is banished.” Bentwhistle replied bowing ever so slightly and wringing his hands.  “He will trouble you no more your majesty.”  As much as he was a fool he was also still the King, and if he was to maintain any sway over the kingdom he needed to ensure that he kept his ear and protected his position.

The King’s face brightened measurably.  “Oh that is good” he said clapping his hands like a young child.  “So very good indeed, he really was quite the trouble maker you know.  He did have me worried Bentwhistle, most troubled for sure.”

“He shall trouble you no more my liege, from this day forth he will know only the pain of an existence beyond this plain and for eternity the separation that a traitor deserves.”  Bentwhistle smiled as he said this showing off blackened teeth in his dark red mouth.  “

“And there’s no way back you say?” The King asked, still somewhat wary of anything that would challenge his throne.  “Mother would not be happy if he was to return, you know how she is.”

“He is gone my Lord, there is no return from the Beyond.”

“Oh how excellent, Mother will be most pleased.” He said excitedly, his overly large head wobbling on a neck that seemed to struggle to keep the body and the head connected in anything other than a haphazard fashion.

The King reached for his cup.  “A toast” he shouted loudly raising his cup into the air, wine sloshing from it onto the bounty of food laid out before him.  The gathered court sat at long tables before him raised their glasses as they stood to their feet.

“To me” the King cried with great excitement and it echoed back.

“To King Luther” the court cried with little excitement over the banishment but considerably more gusto given the wine was now likely to flow all night.  They raised their cups to the king and drank deep.

As the gathered dignitaries and officials tucked into the feast before them Bentwhistle backed slowly away from the king and slipped away through a side door behind the dais upon which the throne sat.  There were things to be arranged and with everyone otherwise engaged this was the perfect opportunity.

2000Ad, Elephant Men and Batman

Just a few pieces from my collection

I have a bit of a thing for original comic artwork. Whether pages bought on the internet, usually from the pages of 2000AD or bits and pieces I pick up at comic conventions, I have amassed something of a collection over the last few years.

To hold in your hands the original drawings that make it into the comics you love is quite something and since I picked up my first piece about 8 years ago it remains a real passion. Below are a few pieces I actually found in the cellar that I forgot about. They were picked up at a Comic convention in Leeds and another in London in 2013. I put them in a box when we started house renovations 18 months ago and discovered them this week.

A quite magnificent Dredd by Gary Erskine. He was kind enough to also let me have the sketch he did. It was amazing to stand and watch him create this and just talk to him about Dredd and Roller Grrrls and all sorts.

A Mike Collins Rogue Trooper. A real prize possession and a thing of Beauty.

A John Mcrea Dredd from LSCC which I just adore.

A much treasured Elephantmen page by Boo Cook. So so good. Below are a few more, some by boo cook and a Batman by Dave Taylor. I have piles more but thought I would just share a few tonight.

People I read – Dorinda Duclos

So much to read so little time.

I try to read as many people as I can but that just is not always possible. Someone I do enjoy though is Dorinda. You can find her blog here.  Dorinda is prolific in her outputs and a fabulous poet who writes on all manner of things and someone I always look forward to seeing pop up in my feed.  Take a look I am sure you will enjoy her just as much.

500

Evening.

I haven’t had much time to dedicate to things this last week and being rather busy have mostly churned out the things I do regularly, popped some of the things closest to my heart on the back burner and tried to keep on top of my comments and reading.  I will Have time to catch up on some of the proper writing in the next few weeks.

I did get a fabulous surprise though when it came up that I have hit 500 followers.  I stopped celebrating most milestones a while back as I tried to spend more time writing and less time considering the stats so this snuck up on me a bit.

I started this blog about 9 months ago and have had a real blast.  I have met some wonderful people along the way and have had the pleasure of reading all manner of creative goodness that I never imagined I would find when I first decided to start writing.

Nichole was my first follower way back and Smartvegrecipoe my 500th and along the way every other one of you lovely lot.

I wont waffle on too much, I only do odd and ridiculous remember, but I just wanted to say thanks for following, commenting and reading and I hope you continue to enjoy it and I am almost, after 770 posts, almost ready to maybe possibly admit to being a kind of sort of writer of a type.  Almost.
