Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday
I don’t take many things seriously as you probably know but I am going to make a concerted effort to do Colleen’s challenges properly when I do them. I have scant regard for the correct use of haiku and tanka and often do such beastly things to them but I think it is also important to show appreciation for the little blighters because they are so fabulous when done right.
This week the challenge was to use synonyms for Character and Affection. I used Disposition and Tenderness.
Cold disposition
Winter holds firm unyielding
until spring awakes
Her tenderness revealing
new life long hidden in sleep
Michael, I think your Tanka is splendid! You know, I always say that poetry should be fun. If you are submitting your prose for contests or publication you might want to follow the rules closer but even then it is subjective. Creativity comes in many forms. 😀 ❤

Amen for Spring – bring it on. I’ve never done either of this type of poetry … I need to step up my game!

Its great fun and i do love the structure. Saying so much with so few words is a great discipline

I have to try it – I have a friend who likes to write limericks and has tried to get me to write them. I’m so wordy – I’d really have to tame down my word count to almost nothing. “Brevity is the soul of wit” as the Bard said.

The only poetry I did in the 5 years I’ve been here was last Christmas Eve – the folly at the park where I walk daily and could claim the squirrels as dependents as I am always feeding them peanuts … it is overly long, but I did have fun writing it:

That’s pretty cool I like it and yes you can certainly tell how much fun you had doing it. Just give it a go. The prompt site which I responded to is one of the few that I do regularly has Coleen is a real champion of the correct form which is really important and she really loves the stuff and it’s a great little community that she’s built up around it as well so well worth getting involved there I think you’d like it

I did have fun doing that little whimsical piece … I walk there almost daily (in good weather) and so thought it would be fun to have an imaginary party there that only I could see. It is not my usual shtick though. I will definitely think on doing it and incorporating into a blog post for starters.

You never know what you’re going to like you never know what you’re going to be good at I think trying Your Hand at a few different things is always exciting if a little unnerving at first

Sounds like a plan – I will work on it and see if I can incorporate something fun into a post … maybe a holiday like St. Pat’s or April Fool’s Day would be a good start.
