Woke Up, outta bed
dragged a comb across my head.

I took a few liberties there but if you know it you know it and now you’re singing it.

Found my way downstairs and drank a cup.
Yes, I’m a Beatles fan!

Now I have an ear worm for that song, if not the whole album.

I think I had the Sgt. Pepper album memorized back in the day and likely played it so much on my portable stereo system, circa 1969 or so, that the grooves wore out.

Was it one of those small Bakelite turntables?

Nah, it was not even that fancy … just a little plastic box, which shut like a suitcase, and played LPs and I used those yellow plastic inserts when I put 45s to make them drop down the spindle. I could not ask my parents to use their stereo … they only played country and western and Jim Reeves and maybe some Christmas music by Perry Como. This comment makes me look like an old fart!

Yes, I should have kept it along with my box of 45s. On a lark, I just went on ebay to find a portable record player they are going for $50.00 to $60.00. They were listed as “vintage electronics” (gulp, since I used one, that makes me a “vintage user”).

I have so many vinyl albums this makes me want to get them out now I might just have to get down into the basement and unpack them

I got rid of mine (the LPs and the 45s) but I didn’t have tons of them, and bought cassettes at that time. Cassettes are now passe, CDs are not even big … digital downloads now are the way to go. But vinyl is back here, and there is a local guy who presses all his new releases onto vinyl. He has a store/factory that does this. His name is Jack White but I’m not familiar with his music.

We had a big record store close a few years ago. It took up a large street corner and sold only vinyl LPs and 45s for decades, and there was no demand for them. They closed, no one bought the store. Then Jack White opened up his factory and now people were lining up for his release party as they wanted a vinyl record. My guess is most of these people have no turntable to play it on. Here is Jack White’s record company in case you are interested: https://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/2017/02/22/jack-white-third-man-vinyl-record-presses-detroit/98199824/
