  1. I see some cute pictures of Theo in here and lots of goodies, no doubt made by you, Michael. I remember you had some down time after your job ceased and you were going to do some traveling over the Summer. It looks like you visited Germany (the Cologne Cathedral and that wurst told me that). Did you also visit Africa? I know you lived there when you were young. Perhaps it was just a trip to the local zoo?

  2. Hey 🙂 hope you’re well.

Yes, I left my job of 30 years in May. And did some travelling, I went to Amsterdam, copenhagen, cyprus, corfu, and most recently cologne on a four day christmas break to celebrate my eldeat son’s twenty first.

Zoo was actually cologne zoo which was fantastic if zoos are your thing…

I could go just about manage to accept all of the change. So looking forward to a new year on my blog and I now have much more time as I only work three days a week. And every weekend is a long weekend 🙂

  3. I remember that about the job and you said you wanted to travel, spend some time with the kids as they were off for Summer holiday. I didn’t know your eldest was 21 – I still think of the kids from the earlier photos you posted. I have not been to a zoo in years, even though I like animals.

That’s a good work schedule Michael and a chance to do other things besides just working. When I got laid off in 2010, my boss only wanted to hire me back four hours a day, so I said I wasn’t going into work for four hours a day because I don’t like driving in Winter and when I worked downtown for 30 years, I always took the bus (end of my street), but he/I left the Firm and went out on our own, so it was farther away for me, two busses in Winter each way – nope, not going to do that for four hours’ work. So I said I would take a cut in pay and work from home, so I did. He didn’t like it, but I got everything done that I did when I worked on site, except answer the door and get the mail. He whined about it from 2011 ’til I retired in 2024, but then my replacement also works from home (at twice my salary)! Whatever – you have to do things for yourself sometimes. I’d have never started a walking regimen, then blogging, then a renewed interest in photography if I was working on site full time.

  4. Wow… that church/cathedral is absolutely gorgeous! What amazing architecture! That is one reason I would love to travel overseas. Theo is still as sweet as ever. And you find some delicious food wherever you are. I hope the travels were everything you wanted. I have missed your wit and wisdom here on WP. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and 2026 is a great year for you and your family!
