Onwards

One Day, we meet when all is done

where day bleeds into night

And memories slip through our hands

So worthless now seem all your plans

Will you still know me, well you might

Though recollections could be none

What seemed so real and most profound

At heart of cause and plight

Is tossed like ships on raging seas

And pious men fall to their knees

Where you stand proud with clearer sight

But it still lies froze deep beneath the ground

But nothing stirs beyond the veil

where you so loud protest

Each test you failed in a fool’s crown

Your kingdom to its needs brought down

So say goodbye and go to rest

And feel the cold as heart slows, skin turned pale
